I read the Harper's Weekly Review. We watched the first part of "Matewan."

We talked about several current events, especially Iraq happenings. I gave a brief lecture about the nature of repetitive, brutal, dangerous work during the industrial revolution. We talked some about the connections between the frontier closing (Native American's being kicked out of their homes), imperialism, urbanization, industrialization, immigration, and the attitudes of social Darwinism, manifest destiny, and the idea of "progress."

Assignment: be prepared to write about those ^ connections.

Laura gave her presentation about Joni Mitchell then she sang (& played) a couple of wonderful songs. We talked about current events.
